BOOK REVIEW: CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE

October 2, 2018 by Denise McGaha

I love Fall and all of the new design book releases.  I recently received a copy of  John Murray’s new book, Contemporary Classical Architecture. It is definitely a must read! John is a well-known architect and is known for mixing classical design elements with more contemporary living.  I love how his work is clearly timeless and rooted in the classical design, yet he seems to breathe a fresh air into a space by combining contemporary elements to make each space seem perfect for today.

Contemporary Classical Architecture: John B. Murray, written by Elizabeth Heilman Brooke Murray, published by The Monacelli Press, 2018

In his new book, fifteen new residences are shared and as you read, you will see a keen eye for scale. John B. Murray is the principal architect at his firm, John B. Murray Architect. The firm is based in New York and “focuses in city and country residences designed within a classical framework.” He studied at Carnegie Mellon University and worked with Albert Hadley before started his own firm – it’s evident in each space those Hadley inspirations.

Here is a sneak peek of some of the beautiful spaces you will find in his new book…

RECAP: WHAT’S NEW WHAT’S NEXT WITH CURREY & CO.

October 1, 2018 by Denise McGaha

If you follow me on Instagram, I’m sure you saw some highlights from my New York trip for What’s New, What’s Next. I was so excited to be able to share a sneak peek of four pieces from my collection with Currey & Co., and we will be debuting the entire collection next week at High Point Market. I can’t wait to share it all with you there and if you can’t make it, I promise several blog posts to share the entire story of how I brought this collection to life.

I have also included some fun party pics which included a Facebook LIVE session with the ladies at The House of Funk!  Great questions about our (Barry Goralnick is also launching this Fall with Currey) collections and the inspiration for them.

SOUTHERN STYLE NOW AND TRADITIONAL HOME:: SAVANNAH SHOWHOUSE

September 10, 2018 by Denise McGaha

Hi Friends!

If you remember back in November of last year, we were a part of the Traditional Home: Southern Style Now Showhouse in Savannah.  It was my first time to work in this beautiful city and the history had me leave a changed person.  I met so many wonderful local designers, influencers and entertaining mavens.  I am so excited to share all of the details here now that it’s on newsstands.  Pick up the latest Traditional Home magazine to see the highlights from the Showhouse.

BEFORE::  These are the photos of what the space looked like before we put our design in place:

As you can see in the images, the ceiling are very low (like 7′ low!!!!)  and there was limited natural light. We wanted to space to feel cozy without making the ceiling feel so low. So, we wallpapered the ceiling in “Lily Pad” from my line with Design Legacy. We used the colors in the paper for the inspiration for the space. Blushes and hunter greens layered together created the ideal space on the first floor of this townhome.

Here are the beautiful after photos taken by the talented J Savage Gibson:

Thanks to all of our partners for helping us make this space come to life!
