30TH ANNUAL ARTS AWARD FOR INTERIOR DESIGNER 2019

January 29, 2019 by Denise McGaha

Scott and I recently attended the 30th Annual ARTS Awards where I was honored and humbled to have been nominated in the Interior Design Category.  I am not a stranger to this beautifully produced Awards ceremony as I have been a presenter, as well as being nominated in the Interior Designer Category for the past 3 years.  I have never won this coveted award and the week leading up to the awards was quite hectic.

I managed to schedule a manicure and a blow out the day of the ceremony, but didn’t really have time to shop for a dress…..so I shopped my closet.  I have always opted for a ballgown but this time, it was a ball skirt from 10 years ago and a draped jacket from last season.  I actually felt comfortable and relaxed and honestly didn’t prepare a speech.  Sitting at the table with my great friends from Currey & Co., I had a fun dinner and prepared for the ceremony to start.

I think you probably know where this story is going, but when our category was called and my name was called out as a winner, I was seriously stunned.  I really was shocked and when I went on stage, I couldn’t contain my excitement.  I thrust that coveted statue in the air and squealed with excitement.

What a wonderful honor to be recognized in my 18th year of business.  I want to thank the judges, Sharon Davis, the ARTS Nomination Committee and this industry I call family.  I am really so excited to have this recognition of my team and our firm because without them this wouldn’t be possible.

As always, having my loving and supportive husband by my side made it all the more special.  Photos below by Beth Tilley Green for Currey & Co. – and a huge thanks to my Currey & Co family for all of their support and for hosting us at their table!!

2018 YEAR IN REVIEW

January 2, 2019 by Denise McGaha

I always look back and can’t believe another year has gone by so fast.  Honestly, it was a whirlwind on a career level and even more so personally.  We moved my Mom and Stepdad in January to be closer to us this year and his health challenges even necessitated a SECOND move in December.  So they moved twice in 10 months.  We also remodeled our master bedroom and bath, garage and painted the exterior of our home from April – June this Spring.   I can’t wait to share more about this project in the coming months and reveal the before and afters.  I would say the word for 2018 was unsettled.  Just when I thought everything was handled, I received another curveball and we were on the move again.

This rang true as well for my career as we took on more construction projects than ever in 2018.  From new homes to remodels in Dallas, Fort Worth, Colleyville and Southlake and even a Lakehouse in East Texas.  We also officially launched our fabric and wallpaper collection in April with Design Legacy and our lighting and furnishings collection with Currey & Co. in October.  I spent many hours, both in my car and on an airplane.  It has been a major year of bringing things to fruition and I couldn’t be more excited!  And maybe a little tired.  As a result, I started a new lifestyle this summer regarding my eating and it has saved my life!  I have more energy than ever and feel much less exhausted after implementing the Plant Paradox plan by Dr. Gundry.

So here’s to a year of big changes, big challenges and big life.  I would never say I sit on the sidelines, but sitting back this day and seeing all that has happened leaves me feeling extremely blessed and honored to be part of this life, this amazing design community and to have you along for the ride with me.

Needless to say it’s been a whirlwind of a year.  I could not do everything without my amazing family support system and my DMI team.  They literally keep me out of the ditch and moving forward to make it all look easy.  Here are a few highlights from 2018 that I hope to never forget.

Here’s to 2019 and I can’t wait to share what’s next!!

WINTER COOKIE PARTY

December 31, 2018 by Denise McGaha

Christmas has come and gone and as hard as I tried, I just didn’t get this fun post up before then!  This year has flown by and everyone (including me) was so busy with holiday parties, gift giving, and getting ready for Christmas! My daughter, Jori, planned a cookie party for her friends the weekend before Christmas and I wanted to share how we made it happen in record time thanks to Paperless Post and Amazon!  We went online the weekend before and got everything we needed for the party. From cookie cutters to baking pans, we got it all!

A cookie party is great way to mix up your ordinary holiday party! It is fun for the guests to get creative. And the decorated cookies will also act as a take home gift for your guests.

Click on my Amazon Shop button below to make sure you have everything you need for your winter baking.  This is such a fun thing for teen girls to do and they basically did everything themselves and even helped with clean up!  I hope you try a baking event for your kids before Spring arrives, especially on those long weekends where weather has them bored to tears or they don’t want to get off of their phones or Netflix!

XO,

Denise

CHRISTMAS WISH LIST:: DESIGN BOOKS

December 16, 2018 by Denise McGaha

The countdown is ON!!  Only 8 more days until Christmas and I still have a few gifts to purchase before everyone arrives.  If you are like me,  having a stash of gifts perfect for anyone is a major need as the days close in on Christmas.  My favorite gift to give is a beautiful book! Often I will lean toward design (shocker I know) but I also love art, cooking and more.  I like to make sure they have beautiful covers and spines so they look great displayed in the library or on a coffee table or shelf.  My collection is vast and I have also started placing a new book in a place of prominence each weekend so my family and guests can peruse it while sitting in our living room or sitting at the bar while we prepare dinner.  Follow me on Instagram to see which book is on our book stand this week.

I recently created my own shop on Amazon to curate the books I have ordered or have received through the year.  Go take a look and wrap up your holiday gift giving now.  They will arrive in time for Christmas giving (and with free shipping if you have a Prime membership) and you can even have them wrapped!!

Happy Shopping!

I have listed some of my favorites in my Amazon Shop. Click below to shop them and finish up your holiday gifting today::

FRONTGATE TABLE DESIGN – PART 4

December 11, 2018 by Denise McGaha

It’s almost time to start setting the tables for the holidays!  Only 14 days until CHRISTMAS!!!  I know, I know.  That stresses me out a bit, but I have already planned what table settings I will be using when we entertain.  We always host Christmas breakfast at our house, so it’s a casual and fun affair with several traditions, one of which is Scott’s popovers with strawberry butter.  We also have a mix of dishes I like to use and now my daughter is in on planning our table as well, which is so much fun!

Today I am sharing the fourth and last table design that I did with Frontgate. This design is more of a traditional Christmas themed table. Together with the red dinnerware, Christmas trees, and reindeer, it ties the whole holiday theme together.

I hope you enjoy this table as much as the others. As always, you can shop the table by clicking the items under each item or you can click the images of the items at the bottom of the post!  It’s not too late to add a few new and special dishes to your holiday entertaining.  But hurry!  Only 14 days until Christmas!!
