As I write this post I am sitting by the fire with a cup of tea watching the sun rise in Napa. Our stay at The Carneros Inn has been divine and the time we are spending with our very good friends has been priceless.
The past ten years of our life has been spent in the phase of growing a family and growing businesses. We only took vacation time that involved spending time with our extended families. And when we DID take a vacation, very rarely did we travel without our children.
When making my goals this year, Mr. M and I decided to invest in our friendships and take a trip this year with a couple that we love. Our friends have given us a tour of San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma that has been a VIP experience.
While I was attending the Design Bloggers Conference in Los Angeles last week, Barbara Barry spoke on finding the beauty around you. Each morning on my walks, I have seen the mist rising over the vineyards, listened to the birds singing, and seen the sun rise.
This time away from work and the bustle of raising a family has revived me, inspired me and prepared me for designing what is going to be one of my most exciting projects to date. Tomorrow we will be back in San Francisco to shop for my projects before we leave town. I always thought that this time away would make me less productive and I almost felt guilty leaving town while I needed to be working, head down, on a large project.
Instead this morning, I woke up with ideas and vision for a room layout for a project that I have been struggling with for a month. I know that by being here and relaxing, I have cleared head space to create on an entire other level. I say all of this to share how important this trip has been for my clients, for my marriage and for my friendships.
I can’t wait to plan our next getaway and I know my life will be enriched in a way I couldn’t imagine until now. Thanks to all of you for being patient with my lack of posts recently and allowing me to space to take a creative sabbatical to come back and create on a higher level. I hope you have a trip planned soon…share it with me in the comments. I would love to see how all of you have travel plans that inspire you too!
