I usually write each Monday on a particular Deadline Dilemma I am experiencing, or one from a reader. Today however, it seems a little frivolous to include a post about dilemmas related to things, when my family has experienced a loss.
Marlin and Lorelei
My cousin JoLeah gave birth to beautiful twins Marlin and Lorelei in September. While they were 10 weeks early and oh-so-tiny, they were given a good prognosis and came home in early November. We were all so excited to have twins in the family, as our grandfather was a twin. Secretly, all of the girl cousins were nervous until the doctor told us it was just one, not two babies we were carrying. JoLeah received the blessing of our grandfathers’ twin gene.
On Saturday, I attended the funeral of little Marlin. No parent should experience the loss of a child, especially at this time of year. Little Lorelei is in the NICU in Houston at Texas Children’s hospital and we are praying for her for full recovery from what is, for now, a mystery illness.
From this tragic experience, this holiday season means even more to me now. It reminds me to travel anywhere and anytime to be with my family. To put my busy schedule aside to enjoy the experience that is our family, no matter the challenges or the dysfunction. It also reminds me that we are all on a deadline. And that each and every minute brings us closer to that end and that we need to pack as much love, living and joy into those minutes.
My Mom and Little Miss M
I hope you are planning your holiday decor with a view to the time you are spending with family and friends. I know I am.
