I am frantically finishing up details on several projects (and preparing the hubs for a week without Mom) to get ready for my trip to High Point Furniture Market. My last prep includes meeting with two clients today to discuss the details of their projects so I can shop for them while I am away.
I travel to High Point for a number of reasons. The first being to stay up to date on the latest trends, styles and designs for the furnishings industry. Second, I use this time to personally select the furniture, art and accessories for projects I am designing. This gives me the opportunity to see each piece in person and confirm what I have selected will be perfect for that project.
I love this time of the year because of the inspiration I receive and the opportunity to spend time with interior designer friends from across the country who travel to High Point for market.
Below is a little of what I will be learning while I am away:
IFDA Carolinas Chapter and International Market Centers Present:
MODERN MEETS TRADITIONAL
Candice Olson, design personality/HGTV star; Ann Maine, editor in chief of Traditional Home
Join Candice Olson, design personality/HGTV star and Ann Maine, editor in chief of Traditional Home, as they discuss Design & Color Trends and Candice Olson’s new collection of upholstery and case goods with Highland House.
Recognized as a leading design professional, Candice Olson is one of North America’s most sought after brands. An authentic and working designer since her early 20s, Olson established her own interior design firm over a decade ago.
Considered “the one to watch …” by the NY Times, Olson has imparted her unique design style on a diverse array of residential and commercial projects. In early 2002, Olson started creating interiors for her #1 rated TV show, “Divine Design.” She immediately became known for her signature style and trademark sense of humor.
Olson has become one of North America’s most loved and recognized design personalities, offering her unique advice while taking viewers through a behind- the-scene look at the real design process. After nine seasons and 215 episodes, “Divine Design” with Candice Olson has become one of the most watched and trusted sources for interior design. Consistently rated #1 in both the U.S. and Canada and seen in multiple countries around the world, “Divine Design” continues repeat broadcasts through 2013. In 2011, Candice Olson premiered her new series “Candice Tells All” on both HGTV and W Network. With a new format and cast of real-life craftsmen, Olson once again imparts her unique brand of style and sets the bar for design shows.
As the namesake and creator of multiple product lines, Olson enjoys sharing her signature style with other design professionals and multitudes of retail shoppers. Her designs are sophisticated yet accessible and simultaneously youthful, classic and contemporary.
Editor in chief Ann Maine has been directing the evolution of Traditional Home magazine since 2002, creating for her readers a fresh, vibrant look and editorial content that is both appealingly classic and in tune with today’s marketplace. With editorial offices in New York and Des Moines, Iowa, Ann and her team expertly create fresh content that captures the union of timeless design with modern living — inspiring design lovers to reinterpret classic elegance in a thoroughly modern, personal way. In each issue and online they cover trends in home design and lifestyle influences and showcase the nation’s most innovative designers, architects, and products for more than 4.6 million design lovers.
In 2011 Ann directed the launch of TRADhomemag in collaboration with Lonny. The on-line magazine offered all new content and featured the nation’s best New Trad designers. For the 2nd issue of TRADhome, which went live in April, Ann and her team collaborated with bloggers across the country to produce an issue filled with amazing designs from Traditional Home’s 2012 list of top New Trads. It was a first for both the blog community and the design industry. Maine also introduced Traditional Home’s Classic Woman Awards, now in its eighth year, which recognizes outstanding women across the U.S. who give back to their community.
In her 20-plus years as an editor, Ann has learned a thing or two about satisfying her readers. “They’re seeking that perfect balance between the style of their home, their evolving tastes, and the challenges of daily living.” And when her readers pick up Traditional Home—whether online or in print—Ann makes sure they find that balance.
I will be posting periodically while I am away. I am introducing a new feature called “This or That” where I show my favorite pieces from that days’ shopping and ask you to weigh in on your favorite! Stay tuned for the latest and greatest from High Point….my inspiration.
Make sure you are following me on Twitter (@denisemcgaha) and Instagram (@denisemcgaha) to keep up with the latest from High Point!!
