Client:  “I have found that our tile backsplash we selected is backordered and while I have been following your “Designed With a Deadline” program, this will definitely put us behind schedule.  HELP!!!  What should I do?”

 

I often find myself having the same dilemma and after years of reselecting products because of backstock issues, discontinued products and quantity shortages, I have a process for delivering our designs on a deadline despite these seemingly potential roadblocks.

Here it goes:

1.  Your dream products is still waiting to be discovered.  Often the “perfect” product being discontinued is a blessing in disguise.  I can’t tell you how many times I have had to reselect tile, fabric or other products only to have the design turn out even better than what I had envisioned.  The moral here is DON’T BE ATTACHED!  There are more than enough products out there to deliver a beautiful design on a deadline.

 

 

2.  Be prepared.  This means that every time I design a project, I keep ALL of the options for the design in a notebook or project bin (more on this later in the week) so that I have alternatives already selected in case something doesn’t work out.  This is often helpful as well when there are budget crunches and we need to reselect due to price.

 

 

3.  Be organized.  Keep all of your project inspirations in a notebook either online or the paper version.  With organized tabs of each room or product, you will have any alternatives or inspiration photos at your fingertips.  You can always keep these online with Evernote and Pinterest so you are prepared for a hiccup.  Every project has them, and you will take them in stride if you are organized.

 

 

AND it’s that easy!  Having a plan is the best way to keep these challenges from stopping your project from moving along.
